In a way, it’s hard to believe that more than two years have passed since the first production release of Microsoft’s .NET Core framework development platform. But it also feels like a long time because those two years have been full of advances, updates, and new releases. We have been developing applications on the Microsoft technology stack for more than fifteen years now, and we have never seen the pace of platform innovation moving this fast and effectively before. The Microsoft team is obviously dedicated and committed to the success of the platform.

There is a dramatic shift away from developing traditional ASP.NET web applications … and we couldn’t be happier about it. Of course, we’re talking about the surging demand for websites and applications built upon ASP.NET MVC Core. MVC Core is a new development framework from Microsoft that we think is going to impact web app development for years.

In a previous blog post we mentioned Microsoft Azure’s latest announcements for what they call “Azure Functions.” It’s a part of their approach to the trend toward “serverless computing” — a concept taking the place of “big data” as the hot-button topic in internet development circles these days.
